When will the full replacement of the EU GPSD (General Product Safety Directive) come into force?

These changes are the result of extensive contemplation and debate on problem-solving throughout Europe. The current GPSD is almost 22 years old, and following a failed reform attempt in 2013, change has been under discussion for about 10 years. On 30 March 2023, the European Parliament approved the text of the new General Product Safety Regulations (GPSR). Now the text is sent to the European Council for the final step in the adoption procedure. It is expected that the text will be adopted without major changes. It means that soon the old General Product Safety Directive will be completely overhauled.

The expectation is that the new regulations will be fully approved near the end of the second quarter of 2023!

However, it will most likely provide for an 18-month transition period. On current timings, it could be fully in force by October 2024.
